CITRUS is a family-owned restaurant that uses all the best of seasonal ingredients, as well as local cheeses and wines. “We wanted something that was casual and comfortable, yet beautiful. Simple, but with wonderful food and drink, and staffed by friendly, knowledgeable people” says Chef Marc Lucero. “Like one of those little gems you find in the European countryside.”

Co-owners, Tom Meier and Marc Lucero met in Scottsdale, AZ. over 20 years ago. That was when they first starting dreaming of creating a restaurant of their own. Marc had trained throughout Europe, gaining expertise in Italian, Spanish, French and German cuisines. Meier, a native of Buffalo, NY, started his restaurant and bar experience in that city’s bustling bar & grill scene in the 70’s.

“Marc and I both enjoy great food, and time with friends over meals is an important part of our lives,” said Tom. “That’s what we’d like to share with our customers. We’ve always dreamed of a place where we could create interesting dishes from many cuisines. Chapel Hill offered us the ideal location to make those dreams a reality.”

The name, CITRUS, reflects the variety of citrus fruit inspired dishes that can be found on the restaurant’s menu. For lunch there’s a trout with orange curry butter and the House Nicoise salad is tossed with a lemon feta vinaigrette. Their version of French toast uses cinnamon swirl bread dipped in orange custard.

CITRUS is truly a family affair and since food has always been an important part of their lives, Tom and Marc wanted to incorporate some of their own childhood favorites into the menu. Marc’s Grandmother’s famous Huevos Rancheros, is one of their all-time favorites.

CITRUS, Southern Village's newest restaurant, serves breakfast and lunch. There’s a special Kids Menu designed by their children for your children.CITRUS features eclectic gourmet dishes, innovative salads, soups, fish, pastas and creative sandwiches; using the finest local ingredients of our community. There is a full bar and patio seating is available in this casual but elegant space. Catering services are available on and off-site. Hours of operation are from 7 a.m. - 3 p.m., seven days a week.
